Embossing creates a raised impression that can be seen and felt. It can bring attention to a logo, pattern or cover detail without relying only on printed colour. On books, stationery and packaging, the material and depth of detail influence the final result.
Show the embossed areas separately and identify whether the effect is intended to stand alone or align with print or foil. Provide the proposed stock or cover material and a reference for the desired effect. Ask how the detail will be evaluated on a sample before approving the complete construction.
Blind embossing uses the raised impression itself as the visible design, without a matching printed colour or foil layer over that detail. The surface and lighting help reveal the effect.
